Kalen Nissen trained in Laboratory Medicine under Dr. Fred Apple at Hennepin County Medical Center. Post-fellowship, she served as Clinical Laboratory Director at Regions Hospital and the HealthPartners healthcare system in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Kalen then advanced to the role of Medical Officer and currently holds the position of Senior Director in the global Medical Affairs organization at Siemens Healthineers, focusing on Laboratory Solutions and Point of Care within the Diagnostics division. While Kalen is a generalist, she has a particular interest in cardiac biomarkers. Kalen has been actively involved with the IFCC and the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM; formerly AACC) since her fellowship, contributing to the advancement of laboratory medicine education through participation in various committees. These include the IFCC C-CB starting in 2017, and ADLM’s Society for Young Clinical Laboratorians (SYCL) Core Committee, Finance Committee, and Policy and External Affairs Core Committee. She also played a key role in establishing, and mentors in, the SYCL Mentoring Connections program.
