Annalise Zemlin is Head of Division of Chemical Pathology (National Health Laboratory Service and University of Stellenbosch) at Tygerberg Hospital, a tertiary care hospital associated with the University of Stellenbosch. She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with an MMed in Chemical Pathology in 2004 after receiving her FCPath (SA) Chem in 2003. She obtained her PhD in 2016. She is an NRF C2-rated researcher and her main research interests are Evidence-Based Laboratory Medicine, Laboratory Management and Operational Research, Diabetes Mellitus and Cardiovascular Disease, Point of Care testing, HIV and Inflammation and more recently Laboratory Investigation and Outcomes in COVID-19. She is the past chair of the IFCC committee on Evidence-Based Laboratory Medicine and a previous member of the IFCC Public Relations committee. She is involved in module and curriculum development and training of undergraduate students, teaching and supervising of Masters and PhD Students, and is Module coordinator of the Laboratory Management Module in Pathology (MMed). She is also chair of the Audit Committee and has performed numerous laboratory audits with other countries in Africa. She is a founder member of the College of Pathologists of East, Central and Southern Africa which was founded in Kampala in 2010.
